The new Windows 8 download is already available as a developer download, but this is not much use to most of us ordinary users. The developer download has been released so developers can start working on all those applications and drivers, and whatever else new comes about as this new and exciting operating system gears up for normal consumer use. A Windows Beta download will be released before a consumer version, and you can look on the Microsoft website to find out how to become a part of testing the new system – and get yourself a free copy in the process. The new system means an exciting time for all of us normal users because we are about to get a whole load of new applications and easier ways to get them. Here is a look at why Windows 8 will bring about so many new applications, and where to get them.
- Application Store. Sure you will be able to get applications for your operating system all over the place like we have done in the past, but it will be better to get them from the application store that is soon to be released. We will all be calling our computer repairs professional a whole lot less when our computers are not infected with malware – the main way we get virus and other issues with our personal computers today. The application store will mean those applications are trusted and we can use them with confidence. An application store is essentially built in computer support because the applications work, and there is always somewhere to get help with them we can trust.
- Applications for all devices. Because the new operating system will be the same for all devices, this means we can use the same applications on all devices. How good will it be to use the same versions instead of trying to get used to so many different versions of the same application? It has been hard enough using different operating systems for our different devices, but using the same applications with different versions can be very confusing too. This is especially important when transferring files to different devices and trying to continue our work.
- Web-based applications. The most exciting feature for the new operating system, other than it will run on all devices, has to be that web-based applications can run like traditional applications on our operating system. This may not sound like much, but it will change the way of personal computing that we know. Web-based applications can use more of the machine’s power because they are accessing it directly and not through a browser. Facebook, for example, is already making their web-based application to run natively on the OS. Think about this for a moment, all the features of Facebook will be faster and smoother. This will mean we will see and improvement in web-based applications and what they can do for us. For business, we will see a boom in client-server based applications and improvements.
With better applications, the ability to use them all the same way, and more web-based applications working identically on all of our devices, our world of personal computing is about to improve greatly.
